About

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to make a difference. I know, that’s the most cliché millennial thing you can say, but dang if it wasn’t true. I wanted to help people, support them and make a positive difference in the world around me.

Then, I learned about the power of storytelling. I would read all the time, from car rides to my sister’s ball games to under the covers late at night when I should have been asleep. The power of storytelling was there inside of me, and I realized that stories are what change hearts and minds. That’s how I could make a difference.

I pursued writing-based careers and learned that I could apply that knowledge to tell compelling brand stories and align myself with organizations that genuinely want to help improve people’s lives.

As a photographer, I can tell stories about my clients at important stages of their lives. As a marketer, I can help get brand stories out that highlight important issues and advocate for change. As a person, I can be a force of good through my own stories.

My Experience

Digital Marketing Specialist | NumFOCUS | Nov. 2023-Current

Job Functions

  • Develops digital media strategies to promote NumFOCUS's mission and vision.

  • Creates digital content, including websites, blogs, articles, prospectuses, case studies, graphics, etc.

  • Runs day-to-day social media activities and utilize SEO tools to increase engagement.

  • Creates visual content for promotional opportunities.

  • Works closely with our development team to increase donations through online marketing efforts.

  • Works closely with our events team to Increase attendance and sponsorship revenue for NumFOCUS events through digital marketing campaigns

User Experience Specialist I | American National Insurance | Aug. 2021 – Oct. 2022 

As a User Experience Specialist, I oversee the overall user experience design and research for the company’s online client account portal – known as the Client Site – and mobile app, AN Mobile. I also work as the product owner for both platforms, identifying and organizing user stories in an agile environment.

Job Functions

  • Conduct user research to determine potential new functionality/client frustrations

  • Act as product owner for online client account portal, Client Site, and mobile app, AN Mobile

  • Write user stories to define business requirements for development work

  • Develop low-fidelity wireframes to detail out overall user journey for functionality updates/new functionality

  • Collaborate with a team of developers to develop technical requirements for development builds

  • Collaborate with user interface designers to design high-fidelity mockups and prototypes to address user needs

  • Create and manage a refinement and sprint schedule for our development team in an agile workflow

  • Analyze feedback from users through online surveys to evaluate new functionality/functionality updates

Top Projects

  • Revamped the content strategy and content architecture for the company's virtual assistant, Annie, which we called Annie 3.0, to better understand why users interact with Annie, developing content models & applying a consistent voice and tone for Annie

  • Revamped the Connect a Policy experience for clients to be clearer on expectations when they connect existing insure policies to their online accounts

  • Identified gaps in communicating information around tax forms and added new communications to provide clarity on when tax forms are available online, leading to a 37-point increase in Net Promoter Score and a 23% decrease in negative comments around tax forms year-over-year

  • Currently leading a redesign of AN Mobile, working to create a new experience that aligns with modern design trends/user expectations and with the experience clients have on our Client Site

Communications Specialist I | American National Insurance | Aug. 2018 – Aug. 2021

As the Communications Specialist I for the User Experience team, I worked on projects to enhance the client experience for American National. I wrote copy with a UX and UI focus for American National’s digital platforms, including social media, landing pages, mobile error messages and the company’s website redesign. Some of the specific projects I worked on were:

The redesign of the company website, AmericanNational.com, including:

  • Writing copy for various product and informational pages

  • Editing copy for consistency and grammar

  • Being the point person for copy QA on all pages

  • Developing the tone and voice of the site's digital brand guidelines

The redesign of Multiple-Line Agent Sites, including:

  • Creating the SEO strategy for the sites

  • Creating and maintaining the content strategy for the sites

  • Writing copy for UI elements in high-fidelity wireframes and mock-ups

  • Developing the tone and voice of the site's digital brand guidelines

  • Writing copy matrices for agents' bios to create local SEO-friendly variations  

UX writing for the AN Mobile App, including:

  • Writing copy for promotional landing page

  • Writing user-friendly and helpful error messages

 Managing the company's corporate Facebook Page, including:

Marketing Director | Marshfield Community Theatre | May 2017 – Current

As the Marketing Director for Marshfield Community Theatre, I helped develop the first communications team with the goal to increase brand awareness and promote the professional-grade shows the troupe produces.

Digital Content Specialist | Evangel University | June 2017 – Aug. 2018 

Working as the Digital Content Specialist, I had the opportunity to do a variety of tasks. I oversaw the production of the university's two alumni magazines, Vision and Rapport through curating and creating content, as well as revamping the overall design to appeal to their respective target audiences.
